High-level convening at UN: Integrating ILO C190 into the Beijing+30 agenda
On the margins of CSW69 in March 2025, a high-level convening at UN Headquarters brought together states, UN agencies, trade unions and feminist networks to place ILO Convention C190 at the centre of the Beijing+30 agenda. The meeting made clear that gender equality cannot be advanced separately from the realities of women’s paid and unpaid labour. Violence and harassment in the world of work intersect with care work, informal labour and migration – so preventing gender-based violence requires labour, social protection and gender policies to be designed in concert.
The event was hosted by the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations, and convened partners including UN Women, the International Labour Organization (ILO), Feminist Alliance for Rights (FAR), Global Labor Justice (GLJ), Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). Panel discussions and working sessions focused on practical pathways to translate ILO C190 into legislation and policies that recognize and value women’s work – including care work – and that provide enforceable protections for women workers.
FAR thanks the co-hosts and partners for a constructive dialogue. We will continue to support evidence-informed policy pilots, advocacy for legislative change, and partnerships that scale survivor-centred protections.
